The Occidental Sousse Marhaba had a major makeover not so long ago, so everything here feels smart and fresh. The interiors are really nicely done, too. Take the lobby, for instance – it’s all marble floors and cushioned seating areas dressed in cream and mocha shades. Rooms, meanwhile, feature lots of white and 21st-century mod-cons like flat screen TVs.

This is a popular choice for families thanks to a good round-up of facilities. The massive outdoor pool comes with rainbow-hued waterslides for kids, and a supporting cast of loungers and parasols for mums and dads in need of some rest and relaxation. And, when you want to swap pool for beach, just head through the gardens and you’ll find a private stretch of golden sand. Elsewhere there’s a gorgeous spa and six tennis courts.

At mealtimes, you can tuck into a range of international dishes at the buffet restaurant, and snacks and light bites are laid on throughout the day at the poolside bar.
