I’ve just returned from a fabulous city break to Rome and oh my goodness… where do I start?! 🇮🇹✨
It was my first time visiting and I honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. I was very lucky as the sun was shining the whole time – blue skies just made that beautiful city glow even more!
There is just so much to see and do. Everywhere you turn there’s history, stunning architecture and that amazing Italian atmosphere. I managed to tick off some absolute icons…
The Colosseum was even more impressive in real life – it really takes your breath away. Seeing the Trevi Fountain is a must of course (especially with all the nearby gelato stops 🍦). The Spanish Steps were buzzing with life (and some great shopping streets), and the Pantheon… just wow.
And let’s talk about the food… 🍝🍕
So many lovely little restaurants and bars tucked away down cobbled streets – every meal felt like an experience. And I definitely made the most of the gelato (purely for research purposes of course! 😋).
One thing that really surprised me was how easy Rome is to get around. I stayed near the main train station, Roma Termini Station, which was such a great base. With easy access to buses and the metro, nothing was more than about 10 minutes away – perfect for making the most of a short city break!

✨ A few little tips from me:
• Make sure you book ahead for the Colosseum – the queues for on-the-day tickets can be very long!
• When you’re near the main tourist attractions, head down the smaller nearby streets for restaurants and bars – often much better value (and more authentic!) than those right beside the sights.
• Personally, I found February a great time to visit – fewer crowds and I had good weather for exploring.
• Save yourself a small fortune on arrival – instead of getting a taxi into the city, take the train. It’s around €15 each and only takes about 30 minutes direct to Roma Termini!
If Rome is something you’re considering, I can honestly say it makes the perfect getaway – whether it’s your first time or a return visit. History, sunshine, amazing food and that wonderful Italian charm… what’s not to love? ❤️
